Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) had a strong presence at Minnesota Humane Lobby Day, organized by Humane World for Animals Minnesota, on March 18. We worked alongside other animal advocates/organizations to push for meaningful legislative change. The event started at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul before moving to the Minnesota State Capitol. It was an opportunity to speak directly with legislators about farmed animal protection, plant-based meals in schools, and other key issues.
A Day of Learning and Advocacy
The day began with informative talks and updates on key bills, followed by a delicious vegan lunch provided by Francis.Throughout the day attendees met with their legislators, sharing personal stories and urging them to support policies that align with humane values. Coffee and treats from Tried and True Confections fueled passionate conversations.
Advocating for Farmed Animals
CAA staff and volunteers played a vital role in raising awareness and building support for policies such as those that give farmed animals more room to move and improve their welfare. At our CAA table, we connected with attendees about our work and encouraged them to take action. Jodi Gruhn, CAA’s Wholesome Minnesota Director, and Genevieve Vavreck of Plant-Based Kids focused on promoting the Plant-Based Meals on Request bill (SF 2970). This bill would require public institutions to offer plant-based meal options upon request.
Taking Action
Many CAA supporters joined the event and contacted their representatives, urging them to back the Humane World for Animals bills. These legislative efforts aim to protect farmed animals, regulate puppy mills, and prevent mandatory wildlife killings. Our supporters helped ensure that lawmakers heard the voices of those who care about animals and the environment.
Join Us Next Time!
Minnesota Humane Lobby Day was a huge success, and we encourage even more animal advocates to join next year. Want to make a difference now? Contact your Minnesota State Representatives and ask them to support SF 2970 HF 2764/SF 2970,which would ensure that a student requesting a plant-based school lunch can access appropriate food. To find your find your State Representatives, use the link to search your address, and click “Contact” next to your State Senator section.
Write them a quick message in your own words — it can be as simple as “Please support SF 2970 to support students I care about.” and a signature with your address. (Please only take this action if you live in Minnesota, and contact your own state senators only). This is time sensitive and critical.
On behalf of all of us who have been working hard on this bill, thank you! Together, we are making strides toward a more compassionate world for animals.
