DESCRIPTION:This event is part of Veg Week (September 19-27)! Haven’t taken the Veg Pledge yet? Sign up here to commit to a week of vegetarian or vegan eating and get access to discounts and support along the way. \nCome meet the residents at Farmaste\, a Minnesota sanctuary for farmed animals! You’ll get to interact with and help sheep\, goats\, pigs\, cattle\, and a donkey. Volunteering at Farmaste is a wonderful way to get fresh air and a workout\, all while contributing to animals’ well-being. \nHow to Register\nGo to our Ticketbud site to sign up to volunteer! \nWhat is Farmaste Animal Sanctuary?\nFarmaste rescues abused\, neglected\, and unwanted farmed animals and provides them with a safe sanctuary to live out their natural lifespans. Residents are respected as someone\, not treated as something. \nWhat is the Schedule?\nAt 9:00am\, we’ll gather to meet each other and review the tasks for the day. We’ll then split into smaller groups and clean out the different barns\, replacing dirty straw with fresh straw. We’ll wrap up by 12:00pm\, and stay until 1:30pm for a potluck/hangout at the sanctuary. Please note: don’t walk around to look at the animals without a Farmaste lead present. \nWhere is the Sanctuary?\nThe sanctuary is in Lindstrom\, MN\, less than an hour north of the Twin Cities\, near Stacy and North Branch. The exact address will be provided to all attendees the week before the event. If you RSVP on September 25 or later\, please email brita.bengtson@exploreveg.org to receive the address. \nOther important notes:\n\nDress appropriately for the weather\, and wear layers!\nTo protect your arms from straw\, please wear long sturdy sleeves\, and bring work gloves.\nTo protect your lungs from straw & hay dust\, please bring a face mask or face covering.\nAll participants must sign a waiver — the link will be emailed to you before the event.\nPlease refrain from endorsing harming animals in any way (via abuse\, killing\, etc.) while at the sanctuary. Sign up here to commit to a week of vegetarian or vegan eating and get access to discounts and support along the way. \nAs part of Veg Week\, join us for a meaningful and hands-on day at Chicken Run Rescue\, a sanctuary dedicated to giving these neglected\, abused birds a safe home and the respect all animals deserve. This special workday is a chance to support the rescue’s work while learning more about the resident birds and their stories. \nConnecting with these wonderful\, resilient animals is a grounding\, meaningful\, and impactful experience. While Chicken Run Rescue’s residents come from many varying backgrounds and have many different personalities\, their stories give us a chance to see how their stories and lives were shaped by human systems of egg farming\, meat farming\, cockfighting\, genetic manipulation\, and more. \nThroughout the day\, we’ll do light and moderate work around the rescue\, with breaks for snacks. Depending on needs at the time\, we may be helping clean and maintain the space\, preparing areas for the chickens\, and supporting daily animal care operations. Some chickens are comfortable being picked up\, and we may have the chance to take photos with our favorite birds! \nLooking for ways to help beyond the day?
