What's Happening

The deceptively named “Food Security and Farm Protection Act” (S.1326) and “Save Our Bacon Act” (H.R. 4673) would strip states of the right to regulate agricultural products sold within their own borders.

These bills are just a repackaged version of the widely rejected King Amendment and EATS Act. If enacted, they would:

Overturn laws protecting farmed animals in over a dozen states, including California’s landmark Proposition 12
Wipe out hundreds of regulations protecting the environment, public health, and food safety
Force millions of animals back into extreme confinement, including cages too small for them to turn around

Lawmakers have signaled they’ll try to insert this language into the next federal farm bill. The current farm bill expires on September 30, 2025.

The Cost to Animals If This Bill Passes

Mother pigs

trapped in metal crates so small they can’t turn around — suffering in isolation for most of their lives (learn more).

Egg-laying hens

locked in crowded cages with no space to perch, spread their wings, or move freely.

State & local laws at risk

including protections for animals, food safety, and public health, according to Harvard researchers.

Your Voice Matters

Most Americans — and farmers — want state laws to stay in place.

80% of Americans support strong legal protections for farmed animals. Across the country, people of all backgrounds are speaking out to protect animals and make sure states have the right to pass their own laws.

Most Americans Agree

Large majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents believe states should be allowed to set their own agricultural standards.

Minnesota Family Farmers Say No

Over 100 Minnesota farmers spoke out against the EATS Act, warning that it would punish those who follow the law and improve conditions for farmed animals.

Your Lawmakers Are Listening

Last year, grassroots advocates like you helped defeat the EATS Act. We can do it again — but only if we speak up now!
